Bowen Road Sidewalk Project
Project Summary
Bowen Road, Buttertubs Drive to Pine Street Sidewalk, Bike Lane, and Wakesiah Avenue Traffic Signal Upgrade.
Project Overview
Bowen Road is one of the busiest arterial roads in the City and carries more than 15000 vehicles per day. With the Bowen Road Quarterway Bridge upgrade complete, the section of Bowen Road south of Buttertubs Drive and north of Pine Street is the only remaining section that does not have raised sidewalk. As indicated in the Transportation Master Plan major upgrades to this section of Bowen Road are expected in the long term (15-20 years). In the interim there is community support for improving pedestrian and cycling facilities. As well, an assessment of the Traffic Signal at the intersection of Bowen Road and Wakesiah Avenue has indicated that it is approaching the end of its service life and is in need of renewal.
Project Information
This project will include the construction of raised sidewalk on the southwest side of Bowen Road between Buttertubs Drive and Pine Street, marked bike lanes, and upgrading traffic signal hardware at the intersection of Bowen Road and Wakesiah Avenue. Constructing sidewalk and marking bike lanes along this section of Bowen Road will enhance mobility within the neighbourhood.
