New routes are being added in 2021, and existing routes are being modified, to increase efficiency and limit collection delays. Transitions to new routes are taking place mid-January. Please make sure to check your 2021 curbside collection schedule to see how your route may be affected.

Automated Waste Collection Services

The City of Nanaimo collects garbage, recycling and organics from single family properties and eligible multi-family dwellings (duplexes, triplexes & fourplexes).

Sort Toss Roll Collection Guide for Phase Two.

Remember to place your carts at the curb by 8 a.m. on your collection day.  On the same day, following collection, remove all empty carts from the curb.

  • If your carts weren't collected on your collection day, check out the Missed Collection? page for more information.
  • Visit our Cart Placement page for more setout tips.
  • Head to the Wildlife & Waste page to learn how to practice responsible waste management to keep wildlife and the environment safe.

Please note: We do not collect waste from apartment buildings, stratas or mobile home parks.  Talk to your building manager about this service.

Carts are the property of the City of Nanaimo and must be left at the property in the event a resident moves.
