Casual and Temporary Employment

Temporary and casual employees are often required to replace permanent employees who are on holidays, sick leave, maternity leave, etc.

During the summer months, we also need additional employees to help repair and maintain roads and sidewalks, parks and trails and install underground utilities.

The summer is also a busy time for our Parks and Recreation Department providing additional recreational activities for youth.  These seasonal positions will be posted in the Spring.

Minimum Requirements for Casual and Temporary Employment

Custodian

  • Grade 12
  • Building Service Worker Course – Level 1
  • Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence
  • Three months’ related experience

Labourer

  • Grade 12
  • Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence
  • Desirable: Class 3 BC Driver’s Licence with Air Endorsement, Environmental Operators Certification (EOCP)

Arena Maintenance Worker

  • Grade 12
  • Building Service Worker Course – Level 1  
  • 5th Class Power Engineers Refrigeration Certificate
  • Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence
  • Six months’ related experience

Administration/Clerical

  • Grade 12
  • Six month Office Administration training program at an accredited educational institution (e.g. VIU or Sprott Shaw)
  • Minimum one (1) year related clerical or customer service experience
  • Minimum typing speed:  50 - 60 wpm
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office (eg:  Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc)
  • Desirable: switchboard and customer service experience

Finance

  • Grade 12
  • Six month Office Administration training program at an accredited educational institution (e.g. VIU or Sprott Shaw) or first level accounting/finance courses at a recognized College or University
  • Minimum one (1) year related experience
  • Minimum adding machine keystrokes:  150 spm
  • Minimum data entry speed:  100 spm
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office (eg:  Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc)
  • Desirable: cash handling, customer service experience, accounting or finance experience

Lifeguard Instructor

  • Grade 10
  • Lifesaving Swim Instructor Certification
  • C.P.R. “C” Certification
  • National Lifeguard Certification (Pool Option)
