Electrified

Hybrid vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), and electric vehicles (EV) continue to grow in popularity for good reason. Each model has its own advantages and disadvantages to consider.

Hybrid vehicles fuel up quickly at a standard pump, and are equipped with a battery and regenerative charging system that offer fuel-saving electric-assisted driving.

PHEVs are also a combustion engine and battery combo, but a plug-in option allows the vehicles to fully charge while parked. Depending on the model, PHEVs can go 20 to over 100 kms without engaging the combustion engine. PHEVs offer the best of both worlds – extremely cost efficient driving on the battery, and the option to travel long distances on the combustion engine.

EV vehicles are more limited in total range between charges than their PHEV counterparts, but their range continues to improve. These are truly zero-emission vehicles, with no emissions and a lot less moving parts than a combustion engine, which also means far less maintenance costs in the long run.

The City has hybrid, PHEV, and EV vehicles in its fleet. Can you recognize which is which when you see us out in the community?
