HOW IT WORKS:

Between October 19 to 26, visit one of our inner-city local lakes:
  • Westwood Lake
  • Long Lake
  • Green Lake
  • Brannen Lake
  • Colliery Dam
  • Diver Lake

Take a photo of your catch next to a business card for size reference, and email your name and photo to parksandrecreation@nanaimo.ca for a chance to win daily prizes.

AGE CATEGORIES:

  • Children (0-10 years)
  • Youth (11-18 years)
  • Adult (18+)

OTHER ACTIVITIES:

  • Fish release on Oct 24, 12 pm at Colliery Dam Park

Fishing Regulations

All persons over the age of 16 require a licence to sport fish in non-tidal waters. Freshwater fishing licences are available in a range of options from single day to annual licences that last all year, from April 1 through March 31. 

The City of Nanaimo covers the licence/permit for those over the age of 16 while attending our Learn to Fish programs in the fall Activity Guide.  More information regarding Freshwater Fishing in BC can be located here:

 Where to get fishing licences:

  • Click here for a list of licence vendors for inperson support. Clients can also visit Service BC or FrontCounter BC offices found throughout Vancouver Island to purchase fishing licences.
