Delegation Information

To appear as a delegation before Council or a Committee you must submit a written request to the Legislative Services Department outlining the presentation topic.

Council Meetings are generally held the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month at 7:00 pm, in the Shaw Auditorium in the Vancouver Island Conference Centre located at 80 Commercial Street.

Please note: Due to COVID-19, members of the public who are not registered delegations will not be permitted to attend meetings in person (other than Public Hearings), as physical distancing requirements cannot be assured.

Council Meetings:

Council agendas are typically published on the City of Nanaimo website on Wednesday before the meeting, where possible.  Your delegation request must be received prior to 11:00 a.m. the Friday before the meeting.

Finance and Audit Committee Meetings:

Finance and Audit Committee meetings are typically held the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 9:00 a.m. Delegation requests seeking funding or related to financial matters will be directed to the next available Finance and Audit Committee Meeting.  To learn more about the Finance and Audit Committee click here.

All delegation requests will be processed using delegation request deadlines below:
 

Please note: All speakers on any item will be given five minutes to speak. A maximum of four delegation will be permitted regarding items not listed on a Council agenda.  Multiple delegations from the same organization or group, regarding the same topic, will be combined and have a five minute time limitation.

If you want to make an audio/visual presentation, please send the presentation to the Legislative Services Department by 11:00 am the Friday before the meeting. Presentations must be in PowerPoint format or jpg images where the order of the slides is clear. A remote control will be provided to you at the meeting for you to control your images. Please arrive 15 minutes before the meeting to check in with technical support staff.

Once at the meeting, let the Recording Secretary or Director of Legislative Services know you are in attendance. You will be called when it is time to make your presentation to Council.
