Applications open for the Design Advisory Panel
The City of Nanaimo is recruiting for one volunteer member at large position on the Design Advisory Panel. The Panel reviews the form and character of development permit proposals for multi-family, commercial, industrial, and mixed-use developments in relation to the City’s design guidelines. The Panel provides independent, objective recommendations to applicants, City Staff and Council aimed at improving matters of design that affect the public realm.
The successful applicant for the Design Advisory Panel will be familiar with urban design principles and have the skills necessary to support Staff in implementing City design guidelines to ensure that the form and character of future developments is of high quality and meets the needs of the community.
Applications can be downloaded from www.nanaimo.ca or picked up from Legislative Services in City Hall (455 Wallace Street) and will be accepted until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, November 7, 2025. Interested applicants are encouraged to review the Design Advisory Panel Mandate and Objectives as well as the meeting schedule on the City website, or by contacting the Legislative Services Department at 250-755-4405, prior to applying.
The term of appointment for the Design Advisory Panel is three years, until November 2028, or until a new member is appointed.

The Finance and Audit Committee assists Council in fulfilling its oversight responsibilities over the City’s finances in accordance with the Community Charter.more -
Governance and Priorities Committee
The Governance and Priorities Committee enables members of Council to review upcoming and important issues with members of City Staff and allows for more robust discussion and debate.more -

The Mayor’s Leaders’ Table works in collaboration with diverse groups to promote local resilience, as well as unity and well-being in the community.more -
Parcel Tax Roll Review Panel
When a parcel tax is to be imposed for the first time, a parcel tax roll review panel must be established to consider any concerns respecting the parcel tax roll.more -
Public Safety Committee
The Public Safety Committee provides advice to Council on strategic and policy initiatives related to the City’s provision of public safety programs with the goal of enhancing a safe and healthy community.more -
Understanding Council Committee Structures
Some committee types are legislated; whereas others may be established by Mayor and Council to undertake specific work on Council’s behalf. The role of Committees is to function as advisory bodies that provide recommendations to Council. Committees are subject to the same rules and conditions as Council set out in the Council Procedure Bylaw.more
