UNDERGROUND

  • Main line, between the dwelling and the water meter
  • 100% of the estimated over-consumption is adjusted
  • Up to 3 consecutive billing periods are considered for an adjustment
  • Entire service line must be repaired
  • Considered once every forty (40) years

UNDERGROUND IRRIGATION

  • Underground irrigation line
  • Valves, manifolds, spray heads and rotators are not eligible
  • 100% of the estimated over-consumption is adjusted
  • Up to 3 consecutive billing periods for when the system was on and may have been leaking are considered for an adjustment
  • Considered once every ten (10) years

ABOVE GROUND

  • Areas such as crawl spaces 
  • Must not be caused by neglect and must not be fixture leaks
  • 25% of the over-consumption is adjusted
  • Two billing periods are considered for an adjustment
  • Considered once per property and per owner

Required Supporting Documentation

LEAK ADJUSTMENT POLICY TERMS

  • Repairs must be completed within 60 days of the discovery of the leak, or the issue date of the user rates statement which indicates excessive water consumption. This period may be extended upon written request and confirmation from the User Rates department.
  • Leak adjustment applications must be received by the City of Nanaimo within 120 days from the earlier of notification of the leak from the city to the resident (i.e. note on user rates statement) or; the resident discovering the leak.
  • If applicable, adjustments will be reflected on a future or amended statement.
  • Adjustments are subject to a $20.00 administrative fee.
