Bulk Water Filling Stations
The City of Nanaimo Water Fill Stations are offered as a community service to assist residents and businesses that lack adequate access to potable water.
The stations are not an essential service and are intended to provide short‑term relief through the supply of treated potable water.
The City of Nanaimo is not responsible for the quality of water once it leaves the water filling station.

Using the Water Filling Stations

How to Apply
A FOB card is required to access the City of Nanaimo Water Filling Stations. Anyone may apply for a card, including residential and commercial users.
To apply, email public.worksinfo@nanaimo.ca with the email subject line stating Water Filling Station Card Request.
Include the following information in your email:
- Business name (if applicable)
- Contact name
- Address
- Telephone number
- Email address
Applications are typically processed within 3 to 5 business days of receipt. Once your account has been set up, you will receive an email confirming your account details and advising when your FOB card(s) are ready for purchase and pickup.
FOB card(s) must be picked up in person at the Service and Resource Centre, located at 411 Dunsmuir Street, Nanaimo.Payment of all application and FOB card fees is due at the time of pickup and is non‑refundable.

Loading and Managing Your FOB Card(s)
FOB cards are linked to an online accounting system and can be credited or topped up through the web portal. To access your FOB card account, visit:

Log in using the username and password provided by the City of Nanaimo to:- View your account details
- Check your current balance
- Load or top up funds on your FOB card
Your available balance will be displayed once you are logged in.

Fees and Charges
All fees are charged in accordance with: Waterworks Bylaw No. 7004
FOB Card Fees
- Application processing and one FOB card: $50
- Additional or replacement (lost) FOB cards: $20
(A Simcom Water Management System account is required.)
Water Usage Rates (Effective January 1, 2026)
$20.72 per 1,000 imperial gallons, applies to both residential and commercial users -
Filling Instructions
PORT CONNECTION REQUIREMENTS
All dispensing ports are fitted with an A200 (Stainless Steel) – 2” Male Grooved Camlock Hose Connection
You MUST have the correctly sized 2” Female Camlock Coupler (with arms) to connect your hose to the dispensing port.
NO IDLING POLICY
Do NOT leave your truck or vehicle engine idling while filling or waiting in line.
Local noise by-laws are in effect.
Noise complaints will be investigated and reported to local by-law officials.Failure to comply may result in time restrictions being placed on individual or business FOB cards.
