Flags at City Hall

At Nanaimo City Hall (455 Wallace Street), six flagpoles mark the site and reflect the community it serves. The primary flagpole, located to the left of the main entrance, flies the Canadian flag.

Then, if you look up above the main doors, you’ll see three more flags set along the roofline. Here, the British Columbia flag, the City of Nanaimo Coat of Arms flag, and the Snuneymuxw First Nation flag are displayed together. These flags reflect the community, history, and partnerships that shape Nanaimo today. They remain in place year-round and are only changed when they need repair.

Together, these flags offer a simple but meaningful welcome to everyone who visits City Hall.

Flying Flags at Half-Mast

When appropriate, the City of Nanaimo lowers the Canadian and City flags to half-mast. This may occur to mark the passing of a respected community member or City staff, in response to a tragic event, or to recognize the anniversary of a significant loss.

Special Flags

In addition to the flags at City Hall, two flagpoles are located along Franklyn Street, on the grassy area next to the City Hall parking lot.

These flagpoles are used to display the City of Nanaimo flag, as well as flags that recognize a range of events, awareness days, and community occasions throughout the year.
