City drilling archaeological test holes on Esplanade - August 1 and 2, 2018

The City of Nanaimo will be replacing the watermain on Esplanade between Victoria Crescent and Crace Street either in the fall of 2018 or in 2019.

In order to fulfill requirements of the British Columbia Heritage Conservation Act, the City of Nanaimo will be excavating six Archaeological Impact Assessment test holes along the shoulder and in the asphalt surface on Esplanade on Wednesday, August 1 and Thursday August 2, 2018.

These test holes will not interrupt any services, block any access, or be cause for any concern for any resident, business, or camper in the Esplanade area. Drivers are asked to not park along Esplanade during work hours.

You will observe Snuneymuxw First Nation staff, City of Nanaimo Road Crews, a private excavation contractor and traffic control crews during this process.
