City of Nanaimo extends eApply portal for 2025 Tree Voucher Program
Streamlined online application process now available for homeowners to access discounted trees and support Nanaimo’s urban forest goals
NEWS RELEASE - Distributed July 31, 2025 2:30 PM
Summary
The City of Nanaimo is excited to announce the launch of its newest addition to the eApply portal, available starting July 30, which will streamline the application process for the 2025 Tree Voucher Program. This modernized system replaces outdated methods, making it easier than ever for registered homeowners to apply for and redeem tree vouchers.
Through the Tree Voucher Program, eligible homeowners can purchase up to two trees per year at a discounted price of $25 each, provided the tree’s retail value does not exceed $90. The initiative supports the City’s commitment to enhancing biodiversity, expanding Nanaimo’s urban forest and promoting environmentally friendly landscaping on private property.
The program also introduces updated standards for desirable tree species, excluding invasive species and hedges. While popular in the past, Western Red Cedar and Arbutus trees are no longer recommended due to their high drought sensitivity and mortality rates, 30% in the first year and 50% in the second. It also includes new guidelines for refunds, payment schedules and voucher expiration dates. Notably, vouchers purchased after March 1, 2024, will be valid for two years.
As part of this transition, the existing online form will be retired on July 30. Registered owners will be directed to the new online eApply process through their MyCity Account. This innovative technology will enhance the City’s capabilities, support growth and help the City deliver exceptional service to our constituents and customers.
