Temporary Public Art Unveiled in New Location

Damaged artwork to be reinstalled at Vancouver Island Conference Centre

Summary

The temporary public artwork titled "Paleo dentriticus I" has been re-installed for public viewing at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre. The artwork had originally been on display at Maffeo Sutton Park as part of the City of Nanaimo’s 2017 Temporary Public Art Program. However, the project sustained damage and was temporarily removed for assessment and repair by the artist. After weeks of repair, the artwork was returned to the City and is now on display at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre, in the same Gallery that hosts the EJ Hughes mural.

A small reception to celebrate the unveiling of the project in its new location will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 from 2:30 to 3:30 pm at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre (gallery located off the entrance at 80 Commercial Street).

Quotes

"I am grateful to the Culture and Heritage Coordinator Chris Barfoot and the General Manager of the Vancouver Island Conference Centre Chuck Loewen for hosting Paleo dentriticus I in it's new home. This exhibition space is a good resting place for my sculpture and I'm honoured to have it securely installed alongside EJ Hughes's restored painting."

"We are honoured that Trish Smith and the City considered the Vancouver Island Conference Centre as the venue to securely display this restored piece of sculpture art.
