Residents Advised of Occasional Water Quality Disruptions

Commissioning of New Reservoir May Stir up Sediment

Summary

Over the next few weeks, the City and their contractor will be commissioning and bringing into service the new Reservoir No 1 and Energy Recovery Facility on Nanaimo Lakes Rd. This work may cause disruption within the water supply network and stir up accumulated sediments that may be in the pipe. While we are working to minimize any disturbance, residents may notice times when the tap water is brown. These disruptions will be temporary, and can be cleaned up by running water through an outside hose bib or cold water tap, such as a bathtub.

Once on-line, 30% of the City's water will be fed through the new Reservoir No 1, and the City will be generating power for sale into the grid. Reservoir No 1 is located on Nanaimo Lakes Rd near the Nanaimo Parkway.

Key Points

  • The City and their contractor are in the final stages of commissioning the new Reservoir No 1. During this commissioning process, residents may notice dirty tap water.
  • Residents are advised to flush water through an outside hose bib or cold water tap, with screen removed, until the water runs clear.

Quotes

"We are excited to be very close to project completion, and to be using the City's new Reservoir No 1. We appreciate residents' patience with the disruptions to traffic and their water supply while we've been working on this project. "
