Dig out your gardening gloves and join us December 15

Beaufort Food Forest work party

The City of Nanaimo is excited to invite residents to Beaufort Park on Friday, December 15 for the Beaufort Food Forest work party. This event, taking place from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm, is open to everyone.

Community partners Mid-Island Community Coop and Discover Montessori, along with City staff will be planting trees and understory plantings to add to the community gardens currently situated in the park. Rob Lawrance, Environmental Planner points out, "The City's Official Community Plan supports the development of urban agriculture throughout the City and the development of community programs that improve access to healthy and affordable foods." He supports this fantastic project and is happy to see this event come together. Rob adds, "Having access to spaces like this Food Forest will help Nanaimo become a more resilient community going forward." B.C. Hydro has been generous with their support, helping to create this space through their Community ReGreening Program.

Deborah Beck, Recreation Coordinator would like to thank community sponsors and partners. Trees will be provided by B.C. Hydro and refreshments by Serious Coffee. She also wanted to remind those interested in attending to "bring your gardening gloves, shovels and tools if you have them."

Beaufort Park is located at 69 Lorne Place. Those attending the work party are asked to meet near the community garden.
