Description

You can access Joan Point by following the Cable Bay Park trail to its end and follow the shoreline south. The 23 acre waterfront park provides a great vantage point overlooking Dodd Narrows. As the ocean waters rush through the channel impressive rapids are created. Seals can often be seen playing in the currents.

This point has been known as Joan Point long before it became a park. The point was originally named after Joan Olive, who married Robert Dunsmuir in 1847. Arriving in 1851, Joan lived most of her life in Nanaimo and Victoria.
