Job Summary

The City of Nanaimo is seeking casual Preschool Instructors and Preschool Assistants to assist the preschool program by leading safe and supervised activities for children in their early developmental years. The programs are carried out at various Nanaimo Parks, Recreation & Culture facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Requirements

Applicants must have valid Emergency Child Care or Emergency Community Care First Aid and CPR “C” certificates, a satisfactory criminal record check, as well as the qualifications indicated below.

Preschool Instructor – Completion of one of the following: Early Childhood Education/Child and Youth Care diploma OR Education Degree from a recognized educational institution OR an equivalent combination of education and experience, as well as 2 years’ experience instructing preschool/childcare programs.

Preschool Assistant – Completion of Grade 12 and a minimum 2 years’ related experience.

Compensation and Benefits

These are unionized positions, starting at $22.23 (Preschool Assistant) and $27.18 (Preschool Instructor) per hour. Hours of work are typically 0 – 15 hour per week; however, there are no guaranteed hours associated with these positions. Shortlisted applicants may also be required to undergo a verification of their education credentials.
