New Councillor starts
Councillor Sheryl Armstrong sat in her first Council meeting in an official capacity after receiving the most votes in the 2017 By-Election. Councillor Armstrong will have an Acting Mayor term from September 19 to November 2, 2017.

Reconsidering old water district lands
Council reconsidered its July 10 decision to examine options for development of the old water district lands along Nanaimo Lakes Road. The portion of the land north of the parkway has been approved as parkland while the use of the remaining portion of land south of the parkway will continue to be explored with additional public review.

Improvements for Cinnabar Park
Cinnabar Valley Park will see some improvements with a new Partners in Parks initiative to revitalize the park receiving approval for $18,000 in funding. The improvements planned include new playground equipment, a picnic shelter, improvements to the tennis courts to include lines for pickle ball, adding a second basketball net and lines for a basketball court in the existing tennis court space. The Partners in Parks program brings together community volunteers with City staff to maintain and improve Nanaimo’s parks.
