2026 Invasive Plants Work Parties

Did you know that May is invasive plant removal month in the City of Nanaimo? Join like-minded individuals and tackle invasive plants during one of our work parties. Your efforts really make a difference in improving our environment's health. Bring your invasive plants to our DROP ZONE on Saturday, May 30, 10 am-2 pm for safe and free disposal.

Please pre-register for the work parties in advance through recreation.nanaimo.ca using the barcodes below:

  • Saturday, Apr 25, 10 am-12 pm: Colliery Dam Park | 150816
  • Sunday, May 17, 10 am-12 pm: East Wellington| 150822
  • Sunday, May 23, 10 am-12 pm: Neck Point Park | 150825
  • Sunday, May 30, 10 am-12 pm: Bowen Park | 150831
  • Saturday, May 30, 10 am-2 pm: Bowen Park Drop Zone at the lower parking lot off Wall Street
  • Sunday, Jun 14, 10 am-12 pm: Bowen Park | 150826

Please remember: Throwing your organic garden waste in your parks does NOT make them a better place, and it does NOT just decompose and disappear! Throwing garden waste into your parks:

  • makes parks less healthy and more likely to be infested with invasive plants over time
  • increases the risk for fires by adding to the fuel load next to your property
  • damages plant and wildlife habitat
  • potentially contaminates our streams, rivers and lakes

If you see anyone dumping in your parks, call 250-755-7515.
