About the Open Data Catalogue

The City of Nanaimo is dedicated to providing residents with the highest possible level of service. Part of this service includes making data available to the public to allow them to make the best possible decisions, to understand the City's business, and to engage in the democratic process to the fullest extent possible.

The City has a strong history of making this data available, from building permit and business licence searches, to geographic information in NanaimoMap and Google Earth, through to fire incident reporting and more.

With the Open Data Catalogue, the City of Nanaimo joins a growing worldwide community of local governments that are sharing their information openly. Our aim is to provide as much useful information as possible in open formats for easy access by the public.

Open Data Catalogue for Developers

The Open Data Publisher is a two part application for browsing and querying open data from the City of Nanaimo. The Data Catalogue is set up for browsing through the available data sets and viewing external download links. The Data Api which provides to the data to the Catalogue and is open for use to the public. The API provides a queryable interface to access the City of Nanaimo's open data in a variety of formats described below.

Querying Open Data Publisher Data Service

The Open Data Publisher (ODP) data service exposes data through REST Web services.

For items with live data you can click on the Data tab and do a sample query to get the URL. These URLs support the OData URL conventions.
