Work Party Requirements…

  • Minimum of two weeks notice
  • Must have at least 6 people (12yrs+ unless approved by City Staff)
  • 2 to 4 hour time commitment per work party

Work Party Kit to be picked up at Parks Operations Yard 89 Prideaux Street after 9:00am unless other arrangements have been approved.

Note: All items will be sanitized before pick up, but please considering bring your own gloves or tools if you have them.

Work Party Garbage Disposal Options: City of Nanaimo Parks’ Staff will pick up garbage left in or beside the garbage bins at the location of your work party.  Visit the Collection Schedules Waste Wizard on the City of Nanaimo’s website or Recycle-What Goes Where on the Regional District of Nanaimo site for options on disposal of materials you might collect during your work party.  For items that are non-recyclable, contact the Solid Waste Services Department at 250-390-4111 or email zerowaste@rdn.bc.ca, to arrange for waived fees for larger items taken to the Regional Landfill. 

Please follow appropriate safety procedure when encounter any item that is able to cut or penetrate the skin.

  • If not comfortable with removing the item, please mark and contact the Parks Maintenance Yard at 250-755-7515.
  • If removing, carry Sharps Container and tongs back to area of item. Never touch the sharp object or item of concern with anything other than tongs.
  • Put Sharps Container on the ground. Never hold the container while inserting sharp object into container.
  • Carefully pick up the sharp object with the tongs and drop into the sharps container. Do not force it in.
  • If sharps container is half full, contact the Parks Maintenance Yard at 250-755-7515 for disposal.
