Fire Prevention Week

Smoke Alarms: Make them work for you!™

Fire Prevention Week takes place from October 6-12, 2024. This year’s campaign, “Smoke alarms: Make them work for you!™”, will educate about the importance of having working smoke alarms in the home.

  • Daily messages: Check the City's social channels for daily Fire Prevention Week messages (@cityofnanaimo on Facebook and X, formally Twitter)
  • Contest!: The Fire Preventions Officers Association of BC is holding a contest challenging students from kindergarten to grade 7 to learn the skills needed to be community safety conscious, promote fire prevention and help protect our community. Students who fill out a Home Safety Checklist will be entered to win one of two Nintendo Switch™ OLED consoles and Nanaimo Fire Rescue will host a pizza party for one lucky Nanaimo grade k-7 class! Find more info and enter the contest using the QR code on the official contest poster.
  • Open House: Nanaimo Fire Rescue is hosting an open house on October 23 from 2:30-4:30 pm at Fire Station #1 located at 666 Fitzwilliam Street.

    Fire station tours

    Station tours will be conducted on Tuesdays only from 9:00 - 11:00 am.

    • 1st Tuesday at Station 1 - 666 Fitzwilliam Street
    • 2nd Tuesday at Station 2 - 2499 Dorman Road
    • 3rd Tuesday at Station 3 - 6230 Hammond Bay Rd
    • 4th Tuesday at Station 4 - 1425 Cranberry Avenue

    Some tour rules:

    • Book 4 weeks in advance
    • 10 or more participants
    • minimum age of 3 years
