Project Description

The City of Nanaimo is undertaking infrastructure improvement projects in the Princess Street Area as part of its 5-Year Capital Plan. These projects focus on the revitalization and upgrade of essential utilities, enhancing the city's resilience, and supporting growth and service quality for its residents. The Princess Street Area Utility Upgrades consist of:

• The replacement of sanitary sewers with the removal and installation of approximately 560m of 200mm dia. PVC pipe, manholes, associated fittings, and service connections

• The upgrade of storm sewers with the installation of approximately 360m of 600mm dia. or smaller PVC pipe, manholes, associated fittings, and service connections

• Repair and restoration of specified areas of road structure and replacement of the associated areas of surface asphalt including approximately 4300m2 of paving.

• Princess Street will be fully repaved from Bing Kee to Fifth Street.

General Considerations

• Typical hours of work for this project will be Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with work after hours and weekends as required.

• Work on Princess Street (from Bing Kee to Needham) involves considerable rock breaking and will be started on or after July 1, 2024 after Bayview Elementary is closed for the summer season.

• Construction noise and vibration should be expected during working hours.

• Anticipate traffic pattern changes. If you live in the area and have young children, please advise them of the dangers of construction and the limited visibility of heavy equipment and trucks.

• Landscape restoration will be done at the end of the project.

Construction Value: $1,587,000.00

Estimate Construction Start Date: May 6, 2024

Estimate Construction Completion Date: August 31, 2024
