Temporary closures for Westwood dog off-leash area
BC Hydro conducting maintenance work on powerlines
Starting February 1, the dog-off leash area in Westwood Lake Park will be closed during working hours while BC Hydro crews perform powerline maintenance. Crews will be working between the hours of 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Those wishing to use the area are permitted to do so outside of the mentioned working hours.
The project is expected to be completed by March 31.

- BC Hydro will be replacing the wooden poles from the Jinglepot Sub-station located on Jinglepot Road and East Wellington Road to Harewood Mines Road near Lincoln Road. The work is expected to start Monday, February 1 and complete by March 31.
- Working hours for this project are from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. During the mentioned working hours the Westwood Lake dog off-leash area will be closed to the public.
- BC Hydro owns the land and they grant the City of Nanaimo access to have an off-leash dog area located there.
- The City of Nanaimo has a total of 12 dog off-leash areas. They are located in the following parks: Beaufort, Beban, Cable Bay, Colliery Dam, Diver Lake, Gallows Point, Invermere Beach, May Richards Benett Pioneer, Northfield Rotary Lookout, St. George Ravine, Westwood and Wardropper.
