2015 Heritage Home Light Up

Homes listed on the City's Heritage Register to be featured

Summary

In partnership with the Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce, the Culture and Heritage Department has arranged for a Heritage Home Light Up this holiday season. As part of the Chamber's annual "Spirit of Christmas" Residential Light Up, owners of a number of registered heritage homes have agreed to participate and have their homes featured in the contest. Participating heritage homes include:

-- MCCOURT RESIDENCE (750 Franklyn Street) -- NEWBURY RESIDENCE (39 Milton Street) -- VAN HOUTEN RESIDENCE (184 Mt. Benson Street) -- HARRISON RESIDENCE (546 Prideaux Street) -- JONES RESIDENCE (639 Prideaux Street) -- NEWBURY FARMHOUSE (678 Second Street) -- BIRD HOUSE (461 Vancouver Avenue) -- ROWE RESIDENCE (545 Haliburton Street) -- WELLS RESIDENCE (904 Wentworth Street)

The goal of the initiative is to celebrate and recognize the many homes listed on the City’s heritage register and broaden public awareness of Nanaimo’s heritage through a fun, seasonal event.

This year's theme is "An Old Fashioned Christmas". The deadline for entry is Wednesday, December 16. The Chamber organizes judging on Thursday, December 17, with prizes offered for the best light displays.

Link to Strategic Plan: The Heritage Home Light Up furthers the goals of the Cultural Vitality (Creativity, Diversity, Heritage and Innovation) pillar of the Strategic Plan.
