Construction on Wakesiah Avenue set to begin next week

Delays anticipated, drivers encouraged to plan alternative routes

Summary

Construction is starting along Wakesiah Avenue starting the week of July 27th and is expected to be complete by the end of September. Single lane alternating traffic will be necessary at times throughout construction between Second and Third Street. Delays are anticipated; drivers are encouraged to plan alternative routes.

For the week of August 4th and August 10th, Wakesiah Avenue will be closed with the exception of local residential traffic. A detour for south bound traffic will be routed via Jingle Pot to Third Street; north bound traffic will be via Third Street to Pine Street. Drivers are asked to follow signs and obey traffic control personnel.

The work is being carried out to replace one of the City's last remaining woodstave culverts. The culvert is located on Wakesiah Avenue and is part of the Cat Stream. All Ministry of Environment and Department of Fisheries Environmental Permits and Approvals are in place to do the work. Environmental monitoring will be taking place throughout the project. The City has contracted Knappett Industries to do the work.

Key Points

From July 27 through to the end of September Wakesiah will be down to single lane alternating traffic at times.
From August 4 to August 14, Monday to Friday, between the hours of 7:30 am to 5:00 pm Wakesiah will be closed to through traffic from Second Street to Third Street. Local residential traffic will be permitted within the closure.
Drivers are asked to allow extra time for their commute or to plan alternate route for the duration of the project.
Drivers are asked to obey all construction signage and traffic control personnel.
