City completes Certificate of Recognition Safety Audit

Achieves score of 92 per cent

Summary

The City has received high marks following the results of an external audit of its safety program. An external audit is conducted every three years as part of the criteria for maintaining a Certificate of Recognition (COR). For 2014 the score achieved was 92 per cent. This score not only far exceeds the passing mark with the BC Municipal Safety Association and WorkSafeBC COR program (80 per cent), but is also above the industry average.

Link to Strategic Plan: These results support the strategic priorities of "taking responsibility to be an excellent municipal government".

Key Points

  • The COR audit results demonstrate the City has implemented the required elements in its safety program to far exceed a BC Municipal Safety Association and WorkSafeBC passing mark.
  • Employers achieving COR receive a financial incentive from WorkSafeBC.
  • Council and all City employees are proud to have confirmation of their high level of commitment towards safety.

Quotes

"The safety of all staff across all occupations is critical to this organization and the men and women it employs. We are very pleased that this COR audit confirms our continued high level commitment to our safety program."
