City Seeking Temporary Outdoor Art for City Parks

Accepting proposals until November 18, 2014

Summary

Since 2010, the City of Nanaimo has been involved in a dynamic and evolving public art program that enhances and animates our City’s parks. Each year, outdoor artwork is installed on a temporary basis for the enjoyment of residents and visitors. The parks essentially become outdoor art galleries and showcase artworks for a limited period of time.

The City of Nanaimo is currently seeking proposals for temporary outdoor art. All artists are invited to submit their proposals through "CALL FOR ARTISTS FOR TEMPORARY OUTDOOR ART NO. 1560", which is available on the City's website. The deadline for submissions is November 18, 2014.

The goal of Nanaimo's Community Plan for Public Art is to encourage and support the presence of public art for Nanaimo residents and visitors to enjoy creative work, learn about and celebrate Nanaimo’s natural and cultural heritage and engage in a personal and community dialogue. It is one of the pillars of the City’s commitment to the promotion and celebration of local cultural talent.

Link to Strategic Plan: Installation of temporary public art furthers the goals of the Cultural Vitality (Creativity, Diversity, and Innovation) pillar of the City's Corporate Strategic Plan by continuing to support the downtown core as an Arts District.
