NEWS RELEASE - Distributed August 12, 2014 2:45 PM
Summary
As part of on-going discussions between the City of Nanaimo and the District of Lantzville, Nanaimo City Council has approved changes to the wording of the formal agreement allowing Lantzville residents to receive water from Nanaimo's water supply system. The revised agreement will now be forwarded to the District of Lantzville for their approval.
Link to Strategic Plan: Building Relationships - the supply of water to Lantzville helps to build strong regional relationships.
Key Points
- Nanaimo has agreed to delete the previous Condition Precedent that required Lantzville to obtain the approval of their electors.
- Section 6.6 has been amended to clarify that any unused portion of the fifty additional units per year can be accumulated and used in future years.
- Section 12 has been amended to allow the agreement to be extended for an additional 20 years at Lantzville's discretion. This was added to allow Lantzville a period of certainty.
- The remaining changes are mostly minor edits to wording to improve the mutual understanding of the agreement.
