Replacement Dog Tags

If a dog licence tag is lost or stolen, a replacement tag must be requested. Dog tags help identify licensed dogs and support quick reunification if a dog is found.

When to Request a Replacement

The tags are perpetual, meaning it does not expire as long as the dog remains licensed. 

A replacement tag must be requested if:

  • The original tag is lost or stolen
  • The tag is unreadable

How to Request a Replacement

  • Online through the form below
  • In person at the Service and Resource Centre at 411 Dunsmuir Street, Nanaimo (Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays, from 8:0am - 4:30pm)
  • In person at the Nanaimo Animal Control office at 1260 Nanaimo Lakes Road, Nanaimo (Monday to Friday from 9:00am - 5:00pm and Saturday from 9:00am - 4:00 pm)

Replacement Fee

The replacement fee is $5 per tag.

    Important Information

    • The original licence number remains the same
    • The replacement tag should be attached to the dog’s collar as soon as possible
    • Keeping contact information up to date helps ensure lost dogs can be returned quickly

    I/we understand a fee will be added to my dog licence account and I will be issued an invoice for payment and must make payment before the tag is mailed out.
