Committee recommendations

Recommendation from the May 16, 2025 Mayor’s Leaders’ Table meeting:

Council endorsed in principle the proposed work plan to develop the “Nanaimo Accord”.

Reports

"Parks Dedication Amendment Bylaw 2025 No. 2255.01" (a bylaw to remove dedication as public park from a portion of "Elaine Hamilton Park" [formerly known as Trofton Park] at 1631 Naylor Crescent for road dedication purposes) passed first, second and third reading. If elector approval of the bylaw is obtained it would allow for a road to be constructed by the developer connecting Extension Rd to the Sandstone development lands located at 1750 Rajeena Way.
Section 12a

Council directed staff to undertake an Alternative Approval Process (AAP) to remove park dedication from a portion of "Elaine Hamilton Park" for road dedication purposes. The AAP will begin on June 18, 2025 at 8:30am with a deadline for receiving elector response forms of July 21, 2025 at 4:30pm.

Other Business

Council passed a motion directing staff to submit a resolution to the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) for consideration at their 2025 convention calling for the BC government to enshrine housing as a human right in legislation and forthcoming housing and homelessness strategies.
