November 7, 2022 Regular Council Summary

Inaugural Ceremony

The inaugural ceremony for the 119th Nanaimo City Council took place. Highlights included:

  • Procession led by bagpiper Graham Davidson
  • Singing of O Canada by Timothy Von Boetticher
  • A blessing and song by Snuneymuxw First Nation Elder Lolly Good
  • Reading by Poet Laureate Kamal Parmar
  • Welcoming Remarks from MP Lisa Marie Barron and MLA Doug Routley

Mayor and Council were sworn in by Honourable Judge Sheila Archer.

Outgoing Councillors Don Bonner, Zeni Maartman and Jim Turley spoke and were presented with gifts and gratitude for their service.

His Worship Mayor Krog gave the Inaugural Address.

Sections 1-3

Administration

Sheila Gurrie, Director of Legislative Services and Chief Election Officer, provided Council with the official 2022 General Election Results.
Section 4a

Mayor Krog and Councillors Armstrong, Brown, Geselbracht, Hemmens, Manly, Perrino and Thorpe were appointed as Municipal Directors to the Regional District of Nanaimo Board and assigned 5 votes each. Councillor Eastmure was appointed as the Alternate Municipal Director.

Section 4b

Councillor Hemmens was re-appointed as the trustee to the Vancouver Island Regional Library (VIRL) Board and Councillor Eastmure as an alternate for the period of January 1 – December 31, 2023.
