Nanaimo's PARK(ing) Day returns on Friday, September 18, 2015

Creating temporary public space . . . one parking spot at at time.

Summary

On September 18, 2015 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, a select number of spaces along Commercial Street will be transformed for Nanaimo's 2nd annual PARK(ing) Day. PARK(ing) Day is a annual open-source global event where citizens and artists collaborate to temporarily transform parking spaces into “PARK(ing)” spaces: temporary public cultural places. For 2015, the following groups will participate:

  • Vancouver Island University
  • Vancouver Island Regional Library
  • Mid Island Metis Nation
  • Nanaimo Aloha Ukelele Circle
  • Continual Threshold
  • Downtown Nanaimo Business Improvement Association

Everyone is encouraged to check out the transformed spaces along Commercial Street.

  • The PARK(ing) day project began in 2005 when Rebar, a San Francisco art and design studio, converted a single metered parking space into a temporary public park in downtown San Francisco.
