Linley Valley Park Planning

Project Introduction

Linley Valley Park is a large, publicly owned wooded open space located in North Nanaimo. It consists of several parcels purchased by the City of Nanaimo between 2004 and 2018, as well as land acquired through subdivision. In 2017, together with Linley Valley (Cottle Lake), these properties totaled about 378 acres of publicly owned green space.

At their May 28 in-camera meeting, the City of Nanaimo approved the purchase of a 20.2 hectare (50 acre) parcel of land off Tanya Drive. When this parcel is added to Linley Valley Park, it will bring the total park area to 428 acres.

Most of the park is currently zoned Nature Park (PRC-1) and Agricultural Rural Residential (AR-2). Currently the park remains undeveloped and is used for informal trail walking, running, mountain biking, dog walking, natural appreciation and rock climbing. The land is a mix of second and third growth forest with the headwaters of two creeks (Cottle and MacGregor) starting in the park.

Planning for the park is underway.
