East Wellington Park Planning

Project Introduction

East Wellington Park was acquired by the City of Nanaimo in 2014. The site is 12.7 hectares and is currently an undeveloped park. It is zoned PRC-1 and lies within the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR).

A park planning process for East Wellington Park is currently underway. Public consultation and background research has taken place, including two open houses, a survey, and environmental assessments of the site. A plan for the park has been drafted, and was reviewed by Council at the Committee of the Whole meeting on October 28, 2019. Next steps include further studies of the site, presenting new findings to Council, and making an application to the Agricultural Land Commission for the park uses.
