Residents can learn more about planned improvements to the park
NEWS RELEASE - Distributed July 9, 2026 10:00 AM
Summary
Members of the community are invited to learn more about the Loudon Park improvement project, view the latest designs, ask questions, give feedback and speak with the project staff at an Open House event on Thursday, July 23, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Loudon Park.
The Open House will provide an opportunity for attendees to review the designs of the park improvements, including a new community activity building. The updated design reflects feedback received from residents, community organizations and user groups throughout the planning process.
The designs were presented to the City's Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusion on July 8, 2026, to help further refine the project and ensure accessibility considerations continue to be incorporated into the design.
The proposed community activity building is envisioned as a community-focused facility featuring:
- Bookable community gathering space with kitchen
- Outdoor terrace
- Modern accessible public washrooms
- Areas supporting flatwater paddling and rowing training activities
- Equipment and boat storage
Additional park enhancements include:
- Expanded beach and improved landscaping
- A new playground
- Improved trails and enhanced accessibility throughout the park
- Outdoor seating and gathering areas, including picnicking and food truck areas
- Improved access to Long Lake and waterfront recreation opportunities, including a new dock
- Additional amenities, including showers and cycling amenities
For more information on the project visit the Loudon Park Project page on the City website.

Quotes
"Loudon Park is an important community gathering place that serves residents of all ages and abilities. Community feedback has played a critical role in shaping these proposed improvements, and we encourage residents to join us to view the updated designs for the park improvements and new amenity building. Together, we are creating an accessible park and facility that will better serve our growing community for generations to come."
Quick Facts
- In December 2025, Council directed staff to proceed with their preferred activity building concept and associated park improvements following community engagement. The project is currently in the design phase and is anticipated to be completed in 2028.
- In October 2025, the City acquired two properties adjacent to Loudon Park, adding approximately 0.5 acres of parkland and increasing the park's size by approximately 29 percent. The land acquisition provides greater flexibility for park improvements and will minimize impacts to mature trees.
- The proposed improvements will replace aging infrastructure, support existing recreational users and create a more accessible, welcoming and inclusive destination for residents and visitors. The project budget is $11.4M.
