Scam calls to residents

Please be aware that there are scam artists currently calling from numbers that display on your phone as "City of Nanaimo" phone numbers. They are not City of Nanaimo employees and they are not calling from the City.

City of Nanaimo employees do not regularly call to ask for payment information and will not ask for a social insurance number, or password over the phone. Protect your information and if you suspect someone who is calling you may be a potential scam artist, please hang up the phone and call our main line at 250-754-4251 as verification.

If you have been the victim of a scam you can report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre using the Online Reporting System or by calling 1-888-465-8501.


Give feedback on accessibility. Submit your feedback through our online accessibility feedback form. Help us understand barriers people face when accessing City services.

You can attach files to help explain the barrier you faced in the form, like: a video, voice recording or photos. If American Sign Language (ASL) is the best way for you to communicate, upload a video of yourself using ASL into the form.

Please include: what you were trying to access, where the barrier happened, what the barrier was and any recommendations you might have.
