Snow Update - Feb. 23, 2023

Due to winter road conditions, and to ensure safety of our workers, the public and equipment,  the City of Nanaimo’s residential curbside collection service is cancelled today. Please do not set out your carts.

Recyclables:

  • Extra recycling can be put out on your next scheduled recycling collection day. Place recyclables in an easy-to-empty reusable container/tote or cardboard box and place 1 metre behind or beside your blue cart. Containers cannot exceed either the capacity or width of the blue cart.

Garbage:

  • Extra garbage can be put out on your next scheduled garbage collection day. Place tied bag(s) (up to two) 1 metre behind or beside your black cart. Bags cannot exceed 60 litres in capacity or 25 lbs in weight.

Residents can request a one-time free drop-off ticket for the Regional District of Nanaimo Landfill. Please call 250.758.5222, or email Public.WorksInfo@nanaimo.ca and include the following info:

Subject line: Free Drop-off Request

Email Body: Full Name, Home Address, Licence Plate of the vehicle making the drop-off at the landfill                        

The City continues to monitor road conditions and will be updating the City’s website and the Nanaimo Recycles app (available on Google Play and the Apple App Store).

Roads: Priority routes are in good condition. Winter driving conditions please take extra caution. Crews will be working on Priority 2 and 3 routes.

Parks, Recreation & Culture: Crews are doing their best to clear recreation parking lots and pathways clear. Facilities are open (except for the main pool at Nanaimo Aquatic Centre and the leisure pool at Beban) and programs are running.
Groups with facility rentals are encouraged to notify the Department if you are cancelling by calling 250-756-5200.
 
Nanaimo Aquatic Centre leisure pool is open. Shallow Aquafit cancelled this morning. The deep water/main pool is closed for mechanical reasons, and staff is working to restore service as soon as possible.
 
Beban Leisure Pool is closed this morning and aquafit is cancelled.
