October is Emergency Preparedness Month in Nanaimo. Are you prepared for an emergency? Island residents should have a kit prepared with at least 7 days worth of supplies in the event of an emergency. Read on to learn how to be prepared for an emergency.

The City of Nanaimo is located within an active earthquake zone and has 21 other identified hazards that residents need to prepare for. In the event of an emergency residents and businesses need to be prepared to take care of themselves for a minimum of 72 hours but more realistically seven days. Preparing is simple and you have most items in your home already. Centralizing them into one location and developing a family emergency plan is critical. Prepare yourself personally and become part of the solution to community recovery in a major emergency event. Below is some information on how you and your family can prepare for a major emergency!
