Nanaimo Votes 2026: Nomination period for Local Election begins September 1

The 2026 General Local Election is drawing nearer with nomination period opening on Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 9 a.m. Those wishing to run as candidates are encouraged to file nomination documents with the Chief Election Officer or designate at the Legislative Services Office at City Hall, 455 Wallace Street, Nanaimo. To file, candidates are asked to make an appointment by contacting Legislative Services at elections@nanaimo.ca or 250-755-4405 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays. Appointments will be booked on a first-come first-served basis. Candidates will be declared at the conclusion of the nomination period. Public access to nomination documents will be provided on the election website as soon as possible.
