City of Nanaimo seeking feedback on next phase of planning for Woodgrove area
Second phase looks at growth scenarios for the area
NEWS RELEASE - Distributed June 17, 2025 2:30 PM
Summary
The City of Nanaimo is preparing a Woodgrove Area Plan to provide more detailed land use and policy guidance for future development in the Woodgrove Secondary Urban Centre. Now in its second phase, the project is focusing on understanding the potential impacts of future residential and commercial growth over the next 30 years. This includes assessing how growth may affect transportation and infrastructure networks, as well as residents’ ability to access daily needs.
Between March and April 2025, feedback was received from over 1,200 survey and workshop participants on priorities, concerns and aspirations for transforming the Woodgrove Urban Centre into a complete community (i.e. a vibrant urban centre with a mix of residential, commercial, park, recreational and cultural components). The results are summarized in the Phase 1 – Woodgrove Area Plan Engagement Summary.
A survey, open from June 16 to July 2, 2025, to collect feedback on three growth scenario options and more information can be found on the Woodgrove Area Plan page on Get Involved Nanaimo.
Link to Strategic Plan: Public engagement for the Woodgrove Area Plan supports Council's priority to engage with our community and stakeholders to ensure we are responsive to their needs and concerns.
