City seeking applications for 2024 Social Planning Grants

Summary

Beginning Oct. 16, 2023, the City of Nanaimo will be accepting applications for the 2024 Social Planning Grant Program. A total of $85,000 is available under two separate grant categories: Community Vitality Grants and Social Response Grants.

Community Vitality Grants are intended to support small projects with a total budget of typically less than $5,000. Social Response Grants are intended to support larger initiatives. Total funding available for each grant is as follows:

  • Community Vitality Grants: $25,000
  • Social Response Grants: $60,000

All applications should address the desired outcomes and policies outlined in City Plan. In particular, proposed projects should contribute to the goal “A Healthy Nanaimo: Community Wellbeing & Livability” which aims to create a community where people can live an entire lifetime, happy and comfortable in a safe and secure community with access to affordable housing, recreation, culture and wellness services, healthy food, parks, nature and education.

Organizations that apply for funding must be based in Nanaimo and/or propose a project that serves City of Nanaimo residents. Eligible organizations include non-profit societies, recognized religious groups and neighbourhood associations. Ongoing operational expenses cannot be funded through the grants.

Past projects that have received funding have addressed issues such as literacy, life skills, social isolation, community connectivity, homelessness and food security.

More details regarding the 2024 Social Planning Grant programs are available on the City of Nanaimo’s website.

The deadline for submitting applications is 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2023.
