Alternative Approval Process begins for park dedication removal

Summary

The Alternative Approval Process (AAP) to gain residents' permission to remove park dedication from 502 Howard Avenue (Old Harewood School Field), to facilitate the Te’tuxwtun Project, begins today.

Eligible voters in Nanaimo will have a 33-day period to voice their opposition to the removal of park land dedication on 502 Howard Avenue and may do so by filling out an elector response form available at City Hall, or on the City website.

As in an election, each eligible voter is permitted one response. Completed forms must be dropped off or mailed to City Hall by 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023; the City cannot accept copies of forms or ones that are emailed or faxed.

Forms can be mailed to the attention of the Corporate Officer, Legislative Services, City Hall, 455 Wallace Street, Nanaimo, BC V9R 5J6.
If 10 per cent or more of eligible voters submit an Elector Response Form in opposition, the park dedication removal bylaw will be brought back to Council to determine if Council would like to proceed with the matter and next steps.
