Snowbirds Requesting Fly Over Nanaimo Harbour

Summary

The City of Nanaimo is excited to host the 2019 Canadian Forces Snowbirds (431 Squadron) on August 14. They will be flying and performing over Nanaimo's harbour from 6:00pm until 6:45pm. This aerial show is free to attend and will be centered above and in front of the boat basin by the historic Bastion, but crowds should have a good vantage point anywhere along the waterfront between the Nanaimo Yacht Club and Cameron Island.

For the safety of the pilots and the audience, the airspace is restricted during the show, including a complete ban on the use of drones within the Nanaimo Harbour Aerodrome. Boat access in Nanaimo Harbour is also restricted during the show.

Those wishing to listen to commentary during the performance can tune in to RSM Productions Special Event Radio frequency at 98.7FM.

After the snowbirds performance, the South Island Rhythm Kings will be on stage at Maffeo Sutton Park performing for the free Concerts in the Park series.

There are plenty of nearby, free parking options downtown. These include the City of Nanaimo's Bastion Street Parkade, the Wallace/Wentworth parking lot, Maffeo-Sutton Park and 2-hour on-street parking. As a reminder, Maffeo-Sutton Park's parking lot is often busy and quickly full during downtown events. Please see the attached Downtown Public Parking Map for a more detailed look at the City of Nanaimo's parking options.

Quotes

"We are honoured to host some of the best pilots from the Royal Canadian Air Force when the Snowbirds come to Nanaimo for their special performance over our harbour. At speeds of 600 km/hr, a large amount of skill and expertise is required. I encourage everyone to watch the Snowbirds do their incredible fly overs, then head on over to Maffeo Sutton Park for the free Concerts in the Park series!"
