Celebrating the best of Nanaimo's culture & heritage on Thursday, April 18, 2019

On Thursday, April 18, 2019, the City of Nanaimo will recognize the best of Nanaimo's culture and heritage with the 2019 Culture & Heritage Awards Ceremony. The ceremony, an evening of recognition and celebration, will be held in the Port Theatre at 7:00 pm (doors open at 6:30 pm) to honour these outstanding community members:

• MR. DEAN CHADWICK, Honour in Culture
• MR. NICO RHODES, Emerging Cultural Leader
• NANAIMO HISTORICAL SOCIETY, Honour in Heritage

“From the emotion and entertainment of a great theatre performance, to the immersive and inspiring rhythm of our music scene, and the rich history which has brought us forward to today, Culture and Heritage is deeply woven into the fabric of Nanaimo. That’s truly worth celebrating” said Mayor Leonard Krog. "We are very excited to celebrate the arts, culture and heritage at this year’s award presentation as we recognize the amazing work and talent in our wonderful community," added Chris Barfoot, Culture & Heritage Coordinator.

The Culture & Heritage Awards have been important for community building and partnerships in Nanaimo since 1998. The awards bring awareness to the variety of the cultural activity in our community, and build pride in the cultural and heritage accomplishments of individuals and organizations.
