Claiming your Home Owner Grant

2016 property taxes are due July 4

Summary

The City of Nanaimo would like to inform its residents that most banks are no longer accepting Home Owner Grant applications for property taxes. The banks are not required to accept these applications, rather it was an optional service that they offered.

There are several other ways to claim the Home Owner Grant, including by mail, in person at the Service and Resource Centre located at 411 Dunsmuir Street, or online at www.nanaimo.ca/goto/hog. A drop box is available 24/7 at the Service and Resource Centre.

Link to Strategic Plan: The City of Nanaimo wants to keep residents informed. This is one of the City of Nanaimo's Strategic Priorities to be an excellent municipal government.

Key Points

  • Most banks no longer accept Home Owner Grant applications, so if eligible, you will need to complete the grant by another method, including online, by mail or in person.
  • Post marks are not accepted as date of payment. Grants must be received in our office on or before July 4, 2016 to avoid penalties.
  • Property Tax payments and Home Owner Grants are due July 4, 2016.

Quotes

"If you are eligible to claim a Home Owner Grant, please ensure it is claimed by the July 4 due date to avoid penalties."
