Partners in Park program sees two new neighbourhood playgrounds
NEWS RELEASE - Distributed November 25, 2015 2:15 PM
Summary
Two neighbourhoods in Nanaimo are working with the City of Nanaimo under the Partners in Parks (PIP) program to improve their local green spaces.
The Partners in Park (PIP) program is a public participation program designed to bring the ideas and efforts of community volunteers together with the City of Nanaimo to create, develop and improve our parks and open spaces for current and future community needs.
Neighbours in the North Nanaimo-Metral area and in the Harewood area are working within the Partners in Parks program to improve Noye Park and Janes Park. Both PIP groups planned, fundraised and helped build a playground in their respective City parks.
For more information on the Partners in Park (PIP) program, visit the City website or call 250-756-5200.

Key Points
- In February 2015, neighbours of Janes Park contacted the City of Nanaimo to request the installation of a playground in the park and started working in the Partners in Parks (PIP) program. The playground was installed in October.
- In March 2015, neighbours of Noye Park contacted the City of Nanaimo with their ideas to install a playground and create a community gathering place in the park. The playground was installed in October and other work will be completed in spring 2016.
- Volunteers installed playgrounds at both locations in October under the supervision of City crews and the playground companies.
Quotes
"We started working with the two neighbourhood groups this past spring and it has been a pleasure to see the results of this process. The Partners in Parks program is an excellent way for citizens to get involved and engaged in their community parks and open spaces."
Quick Facts
- The Partners in Parks (PIP) program allows residents to improve parks in a way that is relevant to unique neighbourhoods. In each case, residents partner with the City of Nanaimo to provide input on their project, fundraise, design the playground and help install it.
