E&N Trail Expansion - Junction Avenue to Extension Road

The City of Nanaimo is extending the E&N Trail in the south end with a new approximately 900-metre multi-use pathway between Junction Avenue and Extension Road. In July 2026, Council approved funding of up to $550,000 for construction of the trail extension.

The new trail section will improve connectivity for pedestrians, cyclists and other trail users while providing direct access to the future South End Community Centre site on Eleventh Street. Once complete, the addition will increase Nanaimo's E&N Trail network to approximately 10 kilometres, expanding opportunities for active transportation and recreation throughout the community.

The project is part of the City's ongoing collaboration with the Island Corridor Foundation (ICF) and Southern Railway of Vancouver Island (SVI) corridor partners to identify opportunities that support compatible public recreation uses within the E&N corridor.
