Three respond for ferry service
Three operators have filed official Expressions of Interest with the Nanaimo Port Authority and City of Nanaimo for the right to operate a foot passenger ferry service from downtown Nanaimo to downtown Vancouver. Island Ferry Services Ltd, Clipper Navigation and Riverside Marine (V2V Vacations). A Technical Advisory Group will review the responses and choose an operator by October, 2016.

Council updated on governance
Council was updated on the 59 recommendations that came out of the Governance Framework made by the Watson consulting firm in 2013. CAO Tracy Samra provided the update, and focused on the recommendations related to the committee, commission and boards.

Strategic Plan progress
CAO Samra’s update highlighted the Community Vision adopted by Council, which included the four community pillars: Economic Health, Environmental Responsibility, Social Equity, Cultural Vitality. It also included Council’s six strategic priorities: Waterfront Enhancement, Water, Transportation and Mobility, Asset Management, Community Building Partnerships, and Taking Responsibility to be an Excellent Municipal Government. They are all in the City’s 2012-15 Strategic Plan. Staff then presented on the implementation of Council’s strategic priorities.

June 6, 2016 Special Council Meeting - agenda, documents and video
