Pool, Fitness Gym and Community Centre reopening dates:

-Nanaimo Aquatic Centre and Fitness Gym opened on Thursday, September 10. Beban Pool will remain closed until further notice.

-Beban Social Centre opened on Tuesday, August 4 for facility rentals. It also opened on Wednesday, September 9 for fall recreation programs.

-Oliver Woods community Centre opened on Wednesday, September 9 for rentals and recreation programs.

-Bowen Complex opened on Wednesday, September 9 for rentals and recreation programs.

Facilities will be operating with modified operating schedules and reduced rental and program offerings. Participants will be required to pre-register and pay in advance for all sessions through our online booking system. More information regarding session registration will be announced at a later date.

Arenas reopening dates:

-one sheet at Nanaimo Ice Centre is open (for rentals and ice programs; no public skating at this time)

-one sheet at Cliff McNabb Arena opened on August 3 (for rentals and ice programs; no public skating at this time)

-one sheet or ice added to Nanaimo Ice Centre ready for September 1 (if demand dictates)

-one sheet of ice at Frank Crane Arena (if demand dictates; no scheduled date at this time)

Recreation Centres

Beban Park Social Centre (2300 Bowen Rd)

Beban Park Social Centre is a large community gathering space located within the Beban Park complex. The centre is the site of a City-operated preschool, 5 public meeting rooms and a large auditorium space used for programs and major community and private events.

Beban Social Centre Office Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am-4:30 pm; The Social Centre is open varied hours depending on rentals and programs happening in the facility.

Public Swimming/Weight Room Schedule

Bowen Complex (500 Bowen Rd)

Bowen Park complex is located near downtown Nanaimo, surrounded by the peacefulness of Bowen Park.The complex includes a gymnasium and stage, two kitchens, activity and games rooms, a registration office, a pottery studio and is the location of the Parks and Recreation Department's main administration office. The complex hosts a variety of programs for all ages, including many seniors' programs.

Nanaimo Aquatic Centre (741 Third St)

The Nanaimo Aquatic Centre is home to one of the largest wave pools in Western Canada. NAC, as it is commonly referred to, is a great destination for all ages and abilities and is the perfect place for families looking for an active outing together. The centre is located within the Larry McNabb Sports Zone near the campus of Vancouver Island University. NAC is also the site of one of two City-managed weight rooms. 

Other amenities include meeting rooms, an on-site cafe, swim wear specialty shop and a physiotherapy clinic.

Nanaimo Aquatic Centre Hours: Monday to Friday, 6 am-10 pm; Saturday & Sunday, 7:30 am-10 pm; statutory holidays, 12 pm-4 pm (closed on Canada Day, BC Day, Labour Day, Christmas Day)

The Nanaimo Ice Centre or NIC, as it is often called, features two NHL-size ice rinks.

Public Skating Schedule

Oliver Woods Community Centre (6000 Oliver Rd)

Oliver Woods is a multipurpose community centre. This state-of-the-art facility includes a preschool room, fitness studio and a twinned gymnasium. In addition to a full schedule of recreation programs, the centre is also available for public rentals and is a popular location to host birthday parties.
